Participant Presentation 3:
Music and Interdisciplinarity

Presenters : Simone Baron, René Mayoral, Fernando dos Santos & Wellington Jose Goncalves

Creative Unlearning / Simone Baron
What does it really mean to create or collaborate? In carefully honing and learning our crafts for so many years, we sometimes end up with an exaggerated sense of fear/awe of what composition or creation actually is or can be, and have to figure out how to unlearn what isn’t helping us. In this hands-on presentation, participants will be guided through a generative prompt that leverages familiar muscles of improvisation and curiosity to create a short etude. Using a scientific method-inspired processed developed with the multidisciplinary collective, decay//crystallization, we’ll use questions, a super short free write, and small exercise to explore the translation/contamination of one artistic process to another, unlocking a new way of creating a multidisciplinary “etude”/score.

Love-like death. Interdisciplinary composition, collective creation and poetry as a language / René Mayoral
This presentation is about “Love-like death”, an interdisciplinary piece that involves dance, music, poetry, performance and/or experimental cinema. Some of the topics we will go through are:

a) the different stages of the creative process, a process that started with one person but transcended into a collective effort.

b) the conceptual ideas that make this piece keep its essence, while embracing experimentation and freedom in each performance.c) communication between performers from different artistic disciplines using poetry as the main tool. This will be presented through the score, the experience during rehearsals and the excerpts from the performance that Grupo de la calle, a mexican interdisciplinary group, made of this piece.
